World’s First Two-Way Bone Conduction

Bone conduction changes the way that we experiance voice communication, but how does it work?

Bone Conduction is the phenomenon for the transfer, or conduction, of sound waves through the bones in the skull directly to the inner ear, the cochlea. This allows users to hear audio communication from the device even when using hearing protection or ear plugs, as bone conduction is able to bypass the outer and middle ear and the voice appears as though ‘in your head’.

In the case of the Mobilus Labs, our wearable mobiWAN device uses bone conduction to deliver audio communication directly to the wearer’s inner ear. This means that hearing protection can be used in high noise areas to protect the user, however they are still able to hear communication through the bone conduction phenomenon.

“Not only are we delivering audio through bone conduction, but we are also picking up the wearer’s voice through the same process, the patented Mobilus Labs ‘Two way’ bone conduction technology.“

Where our technology is really clever however, is through making this bone conduction process ‘two-way’. Not only are we delivering audio through bone conduction, but we are also picking up the wearer’s voice through the same process, the patented Mobilus Labs ‘Two way’ bone conduction technology. Essentially turning the transmitting pads into microphones, detecting the vibration in the wearers jaw and head, and transmitting back as standard voice communication. By using a bone conduction microphone, we are therefore able to use near end voice isolation, to isolate the wearers voice, and eliminate the noise of their environment. This makes the mobiWAN the perfect tool for communicating when in high noise environments such as in construction sites, or oil and gas facilities, as well as in extreme environments such as with military / defence applications.
